During the month of October, fairy wrens can be seen busily fluttering through backyard gardens. Their dome-shaped nests are constructed of soft dried grasses with a small opening positioned towards the top of the nest structure. These birds participate in cooperative breeding, where each mating pair is supported by a group of up to seven helpers. Females are a subtle rusty brown colour, while male fairy wrens boast a striking blue chest. These little birds are much loved in gardens across Australia.
